How We Color, Stamp, Joint, and Seal So the Finish Lasts

Stamped concrete lasts when it is poured on a solid base, colored into the surface, stamped at the right time, jointed inside the pattern, and sealed after the slab is fully dry.

Compacted stone, at least 4 inches of concrete, steel, and slope away from the house, as on our patios and driveways.

A color hardener, a colored powder troweled into the wet surface, gives rich color and a harder top. Integral color mixes pigment through the whole slab so a chip does not show gray. Our pigments meet ASTM C979.

An antiquing release goes down before stamping so the mats lift clean and darker color settmles in the grout lines.

Ats are pressed while the concrete is still workable. Summer pours start early, per Portland Cement Association hot weather guidance, so heat does not blur the pattern.

Control joints are cut inside pattern lines so they blend in.

After the slab has cured and dried, in thin coats, in dry weather.

Every stamped concrete Greenville NC job we pour follows this order.

Why Stamped Concrete Sealer
Turns White, Peels, or Gets Slick

Stamped concrete sealer usually turns white when it goes on wet concrete, goes on too thick, or dries in heavy humidity.

Common sealer problems, their causes, and what we do
Problem Cause What We Do
White or cloudy sealer Sealed wet or uncured, or on a humid day Seal once the slab is dry, in good weather
Peeling or flaking Thick coats built up over years Apply thin coats; strip and reseal when needed
Slippery when wet A glossy film with no grit Mix a non slip additive into the sealer
Faded color Sun wears the sealer and accent color We recommend resealing about every 2 to 3 years

We use a non slip sealer on pool decks and steps. See the ASCC Decorative Concrete Council sealer guide.

Pool Decks That Stay Safer Underfoot and Cooler

Texture alone does not make a pool deck safe once sealer goes on. Each stamped pool deck we pour gets a non slip additive in the sealer and a lower sheen finish. We also choose lighter colors that stay cooler, textured patterns, a slope away from the pool, and smooth edges.

Can Old Concrete Be Stamped Over?

Old concrete can take a stamped overlay if it is level, sound, and not sinking or cracked through.

We check for level, drainage, full depth cracks, and settling. Concrete resurfacing then bonds a new layer that we stamp and seal. If the slab slopes toward the house, has sunk, or is badly cracked, we recommend a new pour. Plain builder slabs off the Firetower Road corridor and in west side subdivisions often qualify.

Resealing and Restoring Stamped Concrete, Including Other Contractors' Work

We reseal our own stamped concrete and work other contractors installed. Signs it is due: water stops beading, color looks chalky, or a white haze appears.

For resealing stamped concrete, we clean the surface, strip failed or white sealer, touch up faded accent color, and apply thin coats with grit where needed. Our stamped concrete repair patches cracks and chips and blends the color as closely as possible, though a repair may show slightly.

Stamped, Pavers, Colored,

Curing, Resealing, and Cracking
Questions Before You Choose Stamped Concrete

We give you the curing time for your project. Foot traffic comes before vehicles.

We recommend about every 2 to 3 years, sooner in full sun or around pools.

Yes. We clean it, strip failed sealer if needed, and reseal with thin coats.

Concrete shrinks as it cures, so some cracking is normal. Joints hidden in the pattern keep cracks in straight lines, and a solid base keeps the slab level.
